Different types of permits in Mauritius which enable non-citizens to live, work and/invest in Mauritius.
1. Residency Permit (RP) under the Property Acquisition
A non -citizen is eligible to obtain a Residence permit if he or she invests an amount of more than USD 375,000 in a real estate project under one of the available schemes:
- The Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS)
- The Real Estate Scheme (RES)
- The Property Development Scheme (PDS)
- The Smart City Scheme (SCS)
The non-citizen shall retain the status of resident for so long as he/she holds the residential property. In addition, the dependents (such as owner’s spouse, children under 24 years of age, and parents) are granted a permanent residence permit.
2. Residency Permit as Retired Non-Citizen
A Retired Non-Citizen is a person who is not a citizen of Mauritius and who is aged more than 50 years. A Retired Non-Citizen should make an initial transfer of at least USD 1,500 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency at the time of issuance of the RP from abroad to his/her local bank account in Mauritius.
A person holding a retired non-citizen's residence permit may invest in any business provided that he/she:
• is not employed in the business;
• does not manage the business;
• receives no salary from the business.
The validity for the Residency Permit is 10 years, renewable.
3. Occupation Permit (OP) as Investor
For non-citizens who wish to invest in Mauritius or through Mauritius via a Mauritian company can apply for an Occupation Permit as an investor under 4 options:
(i) With an initial investment of USD 50,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency;
(ii) A net value asset of at least USD 50,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency for an existing business and businesses inherited and a cumulative turnover of at least 12 million rupees during the 3 years preceding the application;
(iii) High Technology Machines & Equipment - An initial investment of USD 50,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency, of which: a minimum transfer of at least USD 25,000 from abroad to the bank account of the company in Mauritius under which the application will be made and the equivalent of the remaining value in high technology machines and equipment, subject to certain criteria; and
(iv) Investor for innovative start-ups with no investment. Non-citizens are eligible to apply for an innovator OP under 2 options:
- Submission of an innovative project to the Economic Development Board (EDB) which will be assessed on its own merit; or
- The company must be registered with an incubator accredited with the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council prior to the submission of the project to the EDB.
The validity for the Occupation Permit is 10 years, renewable.
4. Occupation Permit as Self-Employed
An OP as Self-Employed is a non-citizen who wants to apply as self-employed and wish to carry out
a commercial activity in Mauritius. An OP as Self-Employed must make an initial investment of USD35,000 and the commercial activity must generate an income of at least MUR 800,000 per annum as
from the third year of registration.
The validity for the self-employed Occupation Permit is 10 years, renewable.
HOW WE CAN ASSIST

- Preparation of all the necessary documents for the application of the necessary permits;
- Submission of the necessary documents to the Economic Development Board (EDB) for the application of permits;
- Accompany the clients to EDB to finalize the application for the abstention of the required permits;
- Assistance to clients for the pet relocation, acquisition or rental of property, buying or car rental, schooling of children, opening of a personal bank account, filing of personal tax declaration amongst others;
- Advisory and setting up of a Mauritian entity, where applicable; and
- Administration and accounting services to the Mauritian entity, where applicable
